About the Event

Couples (and wedding planners) sign up and receive up to 2 hair and makeup trial runs then they get to work with up to 6 photographers from different companies all over Southern California that are matched according to style, price, personality and date availability. These photographers will shoot stunning, beautiful, romantic, and whimsical engagement photos of you and your fiance and the best part about it is you will get all your high res files sent to you by the next month. You will get all this, a $1,500 value for only $50 per person. Oh, and did I mention you will also be able to get in on the crazy insane auction? The amount you could save in actual items you need for your wedding day is incredible. We have obtained some phenomenal items from other businesses in Southern California that you could win at a tenth of its actual cost. So, if only you can make it to this event, please come and enjoy the other showcasing vendors along with the silent and live auctions.

Mission Statement: Charity Shootouts is an organization founded by Beverly Hills wedding photographer, Jen O’Sullivan to bring makeup and hair artists along with new and seasoned, talented photographers together with engaged couples searching for the perfect engagement photos while hopefully finding just the right photographer for their wedding day all in a huge effort to raise money for charity.

When: Wednesday April 25th, 2012 from 3-9pm (hair and makeup trials start at 3pm)
Where: The Castle Green
99 S.Raymond Ave.
Pasadena, CA 91105
What: Get photographed with some extraordinary photographers (5+ photographers will work with you and give you all the high res photos within 2 weeks of the event.)
You Get: All your high resolution files from each photographer.
Cost: There is a $100 fee per couple to participate ($50 per person for just headshots for wedding and event planners.) 100% of your money will go to our charity.
The Charity: Hathaway Sycamores At Hathaway-Sycamores, they provide hope for children in vulnerable situations and guidance for families struggling through tough times. Simply put, they help people change their lives for the better on a daily basis.
Auction: There will be a live auction at the close of the event full of valuable wedding day items to benefit Hathaway Sycamores.
BEWARE! You may walk away with items from your wedding to-do list at a fraction of the cost. This is a no-joke-you-have-to-be-at-this-event event!

Dinomite!

In December, the awesome new Photo Editor of Los Angeles Magazine,  Amy Feitelberg,  asked me to shoot a portrait. I was so excited. I love being about and about connecting with people on a one to one basis. Shooting lots of weddings these days is great, but hard work and a long days... shooting action, emotion, and many people in many lighting situations. I love flying by the seat of my pants, but sometimes, it's great to have a quiet, controlled time to create a fun portrait.

When I found out that it was at the Natural History Museum, I was even more excited. I love the Mammal Hall! I'm not a fan of hunting, but do love stuffed animals for some strange reason.. and,  I am a fan of science. There's something so real and so surreal about those dioramas.

Every first Friday, a new band will play a show in the Mammal Hall at the Museum. I saw Wolfmother perform there last year while on a shoot. It's a cool vibe. Su Oh, the Program Director was a joy to photograph for this article. I can't wait to go back and visit.

Micah: Inquisitive About The Elevation

A few weeks ago, I was invited to photograph a mixed media project where Art Meets Fashion.  I had the pleasure of  working with the designers from  The Elevation when there original photographer team member was unable to make it to the final shoot.  It was madness, but a great shoot. I can't share the images till after the fashion show, but one image is going to run in San Diego Magazine next month and is also being displayed at the San Diego Airport. I'll share the image after it goes public :)

The Art Meets Fashion show is on the 28th April at the San Diego Airport. If you're in the area, check it out. I can't wait to see it all come together for these very talented designers and I'm honored that they asked me to contribute my talents to showcase their creativity.

Now, to the point of this particular story.... We were shooting the finished clothing on models in Valentine Viannay's  (my dear friend and collaborating designer) San Diegian sun drenched back yard when her neighbor's daughter came over the hill to investigate our madness and my strobe lights flashing away.  

Enter Micah: delicate, stealthy, peaceful.  Clutched under one arm, two hand made dolls. One a pigtailed girl dolly, one a frog wearing a dress. More impressively and unexpected, embraced tightly but not too tight in the other arm, a white chicken, with an aura only slightly less peaceful than Micah's. Of course it's not everyday that you see a gorgeously propitious little girl in a prairie dress walk up to you with a pet chicken under wraps, so my attention was momentarily removed from the art couture and redirected to the gracious little dove and her sidekicks.

The orange tomatoes were awesome, I should have remembered their name..golden somthin tasty or other. Not sure why I didn't photograph the giant heirloom tomatoes, but they were really good as was the swiss chard and dinosaur kale.

Preston's tasting room

 The Madam Preston was my favorite wine in the flight.

It was fruity and crisp.

 Sold only at the winery on Sundays, Prestons has their jug wine, Guadagni, available. It's a tasty hearty Burgundy wine.The bottle is filled and labeled on the spot, and you chat with the Prestons and nibble a few homemade olives.  Anyone who really knows me, also knows that I'm an olive fiend. I had to hold back. One more glass of wine and that might not have been possible. My love of olives is something that I will forever share with my Uncle Richard and my Dad Robert. In addition to white and red cells, I have olive juice platelets in my blood.
I should have bought a jug for my next dinner party,
I'm kinda bummed that I didn't. I seem to be traveling north often, so I'll have to get one on the next journey.

 Down the road from Preston's is Quivera. Jill, my friend at J&J Vineyard kept telling me I had to see the pigs. She saw them when the were first born. I think I would have loved to meet them then. As dirty as they were, they were so frickin cute, and really friendly. The only thing that kept me from climbing into the pen was the two giant momma pigs, (one of them a wild boar), and Erik, my voice of reason. I have video of them squealing and snorting and squeaking that I'm going to figure out how to edit together soon. I was trying to hold the 5D steady, but they were so funny, there's a little camera shake.
I understand why people have pet pigs.

I was told that Quivera made this boar their logo and then she had babies.

She was suppose to by Christmas dinner, but dear Charlotte's little spider got her pregnant and she avoided the oven. Not sure what's going to happen to the vineyard mascot, but a little mousing around online seems to imply that some of the piggies are being honored as a tasty swine dinner at the 

Healdsburg Hotel in March 2011.

Jules: No man, I don't eat pork.
Vincent: Are you Jewish?
Jules: Nah, I ain't Jewish, I just don't dig on swine, that's all.
Vincent: Why not?
Jules: Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.
Vincent: Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood.
Jules: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy motherfucker. Pigs sleep and root in shit. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eat nothin' that ain't got sense enough to disregard its own feces.
Vincent: How about a dog? Dogs eats its own feces.
Jules: I don't eat dog either.
Vincent: Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?
Jules: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Vincent: Ah, so by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?
Jules : Well we'd have to be talkin' about one charming motherfuckin' pig. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charmin' than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'?
